Rob Roy MacGregor
Raibeart Ruadh MacGriogair
Gaelic
Math dh'fhaodte gu bheil Raibeart Ruadh MacGriogair no 'Rob Roy MacGregor' 1671–1734 air aon de na gaisgich Ghàidhealach as ainmeile ann an saoghal na Beurla.
Tha e air nochdadh iomadh uair ann an cultar poballach—a' chiad turas ann an sgeulachd mu bheatha, 'The Highland Rogue' (1723), fhad 's a bha e fhathast beò, agus a-rithist anns an leabhar ainmeil Rob Roy (1817) le Sir Walter Scott .
'S mathaid gum faca tu am film Rob Roy a rinneadh ann an 1995 le Liam Neeson a' cluiche a' phrìomh charactair.
Ach 's e duine dha-rìribh a bh' ann an Raibeart Ruadh MacGriogair.
Bha e na Sheumasach a bha an sàs anns an ar-a-mach ann an 1689 is Blàr Choille Chnagaidh .
B' e dròbhair is buachaille a bh' ann cuideachd agus bhiodh e ri cleas a bha cumanta air a' Ghàidhealtachd aig an àm, a bhith a' togail, no a' creachadh crodh, agus a' dèanamh airgead às a bhith gan dìon bho dhaoine eile.
Tha an t-ainm Raibeart Ruadh MacGriogair a' nochdadh ann an grunn àitichean ceangailte ri uamhan far am biodh e, mas fhìor, a' gabhail fasgadh is ga chumail fhèin air falach.
English
Rob Roy MacGregor or 'Rob Roy MacGregor' 1671–1734 is probably one of the most famous Highland heroes in the English-speaking world.
He has appeared many times in popular culture—first in the 1723 biography 'The Highland Rogue' while he was still alive, and again in the famous 1817 book Rob Roy by Sir Walter Scott .
Perhaps you saw the film Rob Roy made in 1995 with Liam Neeson playing the main character.
But Rob Roy MacGregor was a real man.
He was a Jacobite who was involved in the rising [rebellion] of 1689 and the Battle of Killiecrankie .
He was also a drover and a herdsman and he practised an activity that was common in the Highlands at the time, to 'lift', or raid cattle, and make money from protecting them from other people.
The name Rob Roy MacGregor appears in several places connected to caves where he would, [apparently]supposedly?, take shelter and keep himself hidden.
