COP 26

COP 26

Gaelic

Tachraidh na coinneamhan COP (Conference of the Parties) gach bliadhna ann an diofar àitichean air feadh an t-saoghail.

'S e coinneamh fìor chudromach a th' innte far an tig riochdairean bho riaghaltasan nan dùthchannan ri chèile airson deasbad air èiginn na gnàth-shìde.

Cluinnear iomradh gu tric a-nis air Còrdadh Pharas (the Paris Agreement) a chaidh aontachadh aig COP21 ann am Paras ann an 2015.

Aig a' choinneimh sin, gheall faisg air 200 dùthaich gun cumadh iad ris a' chiad phlana chruinneil a-riamh airson strì an aghaidh atharrachadh na gnàth-shìde.

Dh'aontaich na pàrtaidhean:

  • gun dèan iad oidhirp 'son àrdachadh ann an teothachdan cuibheasach na cruinne a chumail fo +2°C,
  • gun dèan iad ath-sgrùdadh air adhartas a h-uile còig bliadhna,
  • gun cuir dùthchannan leasaichte airgead mu seach airson strì an aghaidh atharrachadh na gnàth-shìde agus gun tèid cuid den airgead gu dùthchannan fo leasachadh a tha feumach air taic airgid.

Leis nach do thachair coinneamh 2020 ri linn a' choròna-bhìorais, 's e coinneamh uabhasach cudromach a bh' ann an COP26, a thachair ann an Glaschu ann an 2021.

The COP (Conference of the Parties) meetings take place every year in different places around the world.

It is a very important meeting where representatives from the governments of countries come together to discuss the climate crisis.

We often hear mention of the Paris Agreement which was approved at COP21 in Paris in 2015.

At that meeting, nearly 200 countries pledged to adhere to the first ever global plan to combat climate change.

The parties agreed:

  • that they will try to keep the rise in average global temperatures below +2°C,
  • that they will review progress every five years,
  • that developed countries will each contribute money to combat climate change and that some of the money will go to developing countries that need financial support.

As the 2020 meeting did not take place due to the corona virus, COP26, which took place in Glasgow in 2021, was a very important meeting.

At the end of the COP26 meeting, some of the delegates were pessimistic about the agreements, which were weaker than they should be.

Damage is being done still in the world and the effects of this will be seen more often in time to come.
