The Gaelic Hub: hope
Ionad na Gàidhlig: Dòchas
LUC Siud an tagradh againn air falbh ma-thà. Bidh e ann an làmhan eile a dh’aithghearr. Guma math a thèid leinn!
That’s our application away then. It’ll be in someone else’s hands shortly. I hope we succeed!
MURCHADH Chan eil againn ach a bhith beò an dòchas gum faigh sinn freagairt a bhios fàbharach.
We can only live in hope that we’ll receive a favourable response.
LUC Bidh sinn beò an dòchas! Ged a lùigeadh sinn a’ mhaoin as àirde fhaighinn, bhithinn fhìn taingeil airson taic sam bith. Tha sinn a’ dèanamh tòrr mar-thà le glè bheag airgid. Bhite an dùil gum faicte sin san iarrtas againn.
We will live in hope! Although we’d prefer to get the highest amount of funding, I’d be thankful for any support. We do a lot as it is with very little money. We’d hope they’d see that in our application.
MURCHADH Tha thu ceart. Aig a’ char as lugha lùiginn fhìn gu faigheamaid airgead gu leòr airson seirbheisean an ionaid a leudachadh.
You’re right. At the very least I’d hope that we would get enough money to expand the hub’s services.
RONA Far am bi toil bidh gnìomh!
Where’s there’s a will there’s a way!
LUC Dè a lùigeadh tu fhèin, a Rona?
What would you hope for, Rona?
RONA Uill, tha mi’n dòchas gun tèid agam air barrachd chlasaichean ciùil is ealain a thabhainn dhan òigridh. Tha iad ag obrachadh cho math.
Well I hope I can offer more music and art classes to the youngsters. They work so well.
LUC Chan fhada gus am bi thu fhèin a’ tilleadh dhan chlas, a Mhurchaidh. Ciamar a tha thu a’ faireachdainn mun sin?
It won’t be long until you return to the classroom, Murchadh. How do you feel about that?
MURCHADH Thàinig na saor-làithean ann an deagh àm dhòmhsa. Tha mi air spionnadh às ùr fhaighinn. Bidh mi a’ tilleadh an dùil agus an dòchas gun dèan mi diofar ann am beatha nan sgoilearan.
The holidays came in good time for me. I’ve got a new lease of life. I’ll return in the hope that I’ll make a difference to the pupils’ lives.
RONA Cha dùraigeadh tu sin a ràdh aig toiseach an Iuchair?
You wouldn’t have said that at the beginning of July.
MURCHADH Cha dùraigeadh idir! Tha leithid de dh’fheumalachdan aig cuid den òigridh a bhios mi a’ teagasg. Bhiodh e math beagan dòchais a thoirt dhaibh.
I wouldn’t! Some of the students I teach have so many needs. It would be good to give them some hope.
LUC Ge bith dè thachras dhan tagradh, feumaidh mise beagan ùine a ghabhail dheth. Tha feumalachdan sònraichte nam theaghlach fhìn agus cha b’ fhuilear dhomh barrachd ùine a chur seachad còmhla ri mo phàrantan. Agus, tha Mairsili a’ bruidhinn air a dhol a choimhead air a pàrantan fhèin.
Whatever happens with the application, I’ll have to take some time off. My own family has specific needs and it wouldn’t do me any harm to spend time with my parents. And Mairsili’s talking about going to visit her own parents.
RONA Dè mu dheidhinn Alfie? Dè a dh’iarradh tu dhàsan?
What about Alfie? What would you want for him?
MURCHADH Nì Alfie an rud a bhios ceart dhà fhèin agus cha chuir mise cnap-starra na rathad. Tha Seonag fhathast an dòchas gun tèid e dhan oilthigh agus cò aig tha fios nach tèid. ’S e an roghainn aige fhèin a bhios ann aig a’ cheann thall.
Alfie will do what’s right for him and I won’t put any obstacles in his way. Seonag still hopes he’ll go to university and who knows, he might. It’ll be his own choice in the end.
RONA Uill, tha mise glè thoilichte gum bi e mun cuairt an seo airson greiseag eile. Tha e a’ dol gam chuideachadh le taisbeanadh nan eilthireach.
Well I’m quite happy he’ll be around here for another while. He’s going to help me with the emigration exhibition.
LUC A bheil tiotal againn air a shon?
Is there a title for it?
RONA Uill, bha sinn a’ beachdachadh air “Guma Slàn le na Gaisgich” ach às dèidh dhan tagradh a dhol a-steach, ’s dòcha gum biodh “Beò an Dòchas” na bu fhreagarraiche!
Well we were thinking about Farewell to the Heroes but after submitting the application, maybe Living in Hope would be more suitable!
